Can You Hear Me Now! - Sleepless in Rwanda
Assemblage: Machete, cell phone, photos of Hutu Magazine, Interahamwe (Hutu youth gangs yielding machetes), satellite dish (Poem written on plexiglass)
H 25" x W 18.25" x D 1.5"
(2010)
She lost her head to Chinese steel
Invitations sent RSVP
No one called; no one came
We slept
She lost her dignity
Maggots marched, ants dined
We turned aside
Preferring scent of coconuts and scotch
She lost her dreams
Crossing borders, orphans rained
We smoked Cohibas
Blowing rings as vultures circled
She lost her life
Artificial borders, artificial race
Rivers remember, no list of names
We did nothing
