About the Caversham Residency
"Creative Cultural Dialogues - these are three-week theme-based residencies for four participants. They provide artists, and writers with focused time and facilitated creative interaction to share cultural diversity, personal stories, insights and images. These are used as source for inspiration and result in print-based art works for exhibition. Since 2000 in partnership with Fulton County Arts Council (GA) there have been four International Exhibitions accompanied by catalogues:
This was the tenth iteration of this residency. The period for our residency was January 25, 2009 through February 14, 2009. One visual artist from Fulton County, GA and one visual artist from South Africa were chosen, likewise, two literary artists, one from Fulton County, GA and one from South Africa were chosen. Caversham residencies are by invitation only.
The visual artists from each country were paired with the literary artists of the opposite countries for their collaborative projects.
The video on the following page of this site was is but one result of the process. The dialogue in poem between Mxolisi Nyezwa (my cottage mate) and myself, is another small part of the process.
